Divorce can be good for military couples

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Military Divorce on Friday, March 20, 2015.

Military life is not for all couples. Even couples who knew the stakes when they got married may find that years of being stationed across different states or separated by deployments has taken its toll on their once happy life. It is important to remember that this does not mean that your marriage is a failure or a waste. It is completely understandable that the hardships of military life may cause tension in your marriage, but you should work to remember the good times of your marriage instead of the bad times.

One way to avoid focusing on the bad times in your marriage is to end the marriage before the bad times even really have a chance to occur. If you feel that your marriage is no longer as happy as it used to be, divorce can allow you and your spouse to remain friends instead of being driven apart by the bad feelings associated with your relationship. This is particularly important if there are children involved, as both parents will be happy to remain jointly involved with the child’s development.

You may have heard that military divorce is extremely complex compared to non-military divorce, and while this is true, it is no reason to avoid getting a divorce if that is what’s best for you and your spouse. Various factors and rules will play into how military divorce is treated, including state rules depending on where you live and are stationed. You could be stationed in Missouri but have property in Tennessee, and that could play a large part in your divorce. But just because it is complex does not mean it is impossible.

One way to make your military divorce go smoother is to enlist the aid of an attorney who is familiar with military divorce. This can help you decide which state to file for divorce in and how best to proceed with your case. Visit our website to find out how we can help with your divorce case. A smooth divorce is a key factor in maintaining a healthy and friendly relationship with your spouse.
