Supreme Court to hear arguments in Baby Veronica case

13159699_S.jpgFor the first time in 14 years, the U.S. Supreme Court is getting ready to rule on whether the Indian Child Welfare Act can stop an adoption, even if that adoption was granted by the custodial parent and done in accordance with state law. The ruling is expected to set precedent to future ICWA cases.

Unmarried parents face unique challenges in Missouri

17592509_S.jpgMarriage is not necessarily for everyone. In fact, there are plenty of couples in Missouri who live together, share living expenses and have children, yet are not legally married. Of course, there is nothing wrong with these arrangements at all. However, when children are involved -- and the parents split up -- it can quickly become complicated.

High-asset divorces can be quite complex

6151990_S.jpgThere are certainly signs of trouble in the divorce process when each side cannot agree on the stipulations of a divorce. For example, if a Missouri father is not willing to only have every other weekend visitation rights or pay out thousands of dollars in alimony, but his soon-to-be ex-wife is insistent on these things, this could be a sign the two will end up having to go to court to reach an agreement.

Hand surgeon with national chain jailed for unpaid child support

8943603_S.jpgPaying child support in Missouri is not an option. Rather, it is a payment that typically the noncustodial parent has to pay -- by law. In cases where payments are not made, the parent who owes can be expected to be contacted by the Missouri Division of Child Support Enforcement. This division specifically works with custodial parents to help locate a noncustodial parent who is behind on child support payments.

Missouri bill to expedite unmarried parent custody issues

10289477_S.jpgWhen it comes to parental rights, unmarried parents in Missouri should be treated the same way as married parents. This is why a Springfield representative has introduced House Bill 566 in order to expedite those child custody cases involving unmarried fathers.
