USFSPA and your military divorce

41537249_S.jpgUSFSPA refers to the Uniformed Services Former Spouses' Protection Act, which was an Act established to ensure that the former spouses of individuals who serve in the military would receive a share of the retirement benefits that said former spouse earned from service. Essentially, under Missouri law, the retirement pay of those who serve or have served in the military is considered marital property, and just like other marital property, it is subject to being divided during a divorce.

Begin defending yourself against domestic abuse right now

14527942_S.jpgWhen it comes to domestic violence, we understand the urgency of the situation and that timing is everything. Victims of domestic abuse endure some of the most traumatic and unimaginable circumstances on a daily basis, and securing legal protection as soon as possible is critical to their mental and physical health. More importantly, if a domestic abuser discovers that his or her victim has pursued legal action, the consequences could be fatal, making it even more important that victims get the help they need fast.

Legal separation can help couples contemplating divorce

43001582_S.jpgNobody would ever claim that marriage is easy. Relationships take work, and staying together through things like unexpected unemployment, moving to different states, raising children and any of the other issues that may arise during a marriage can easily put a strain on a couple's relationship. The simple truth is that circumstances change, life changes and a relationship may change as well. What was once a happy, loving relationship may instead become a hostile or apathetic union of two individuals who simply happen to be living together.

Service of process for divorcing military couples

48137322_S.jpgThere are many reasons that military divorce is more complicated than divorce for couples with no military ties, but one of the largest reasons is how the location of the service of process can be altered for military couples. In most divorces, the service of process is quite simply governed by the laws of the state in which the couple reside. This is not necessarily the case for military couples.
