You can break the cycle of domestic violence

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Domestic Violence on Sunday, May 22, 2016.

Maybe it started with a cruel remark or a loud demand. But over time, things escalated to frequent bouts of physical violence. Dealing with an abusive partner can be extremely frightening and emotionally draining. And the situation can even become life-threatening.

It is very easy to feel alone and confused when your partner, a person you have loved, becomes the source of such terror. All too often, abusers know how to manipulate the emotions of their victims. They may apologize after a fight and promise not to act violently again. Yet such promises are broken when the next conflict erupts and the cycle of abuse continues.

Abusers sometimes use threats of violence or emotional blackmail to keep their victims in a constant state of fear and uncertainty. They may also try to keep their victims isolated from friends, family or anyone who could offer help.

But as daunting as it may seem, you can break free from the prison of domestic abuse. There are several measures available that can help prevent an abuser from continuing to wreak havoc on your life. One thing you can do is go to the police and get a protective order. You may then want to take further action to permanently extricate yourself from your dangerous circumstances.

At the Stange Law Firm, we have experience providing services to clients who are leaving behind abusive relationships. We can help you with legal matters regarding divorce, child support, child custody and protective orders. And if necessary, we are prepared to represent your interests in a court of law. Remember, your life is precious and you don’t have to spend it living in fear.
