Common reason for divorce

11065830_S.jpgThere may be a number of reasons why the marriages of Missouri couples break down and end in divorce. One of those reasons is infidelity. This may be physical or just emotional, and it may happen once or multiple times before the marriage ends. Money problems are another reason. Poverty or a wife making more money than her husband are both examples of financial issues that can cause stress in a marriage.

Various types of addictions may also bring an end to a marriage as can situations such as the death of a child or the diagnosis of a serious illness. Some couples are also simply incompatible. They might disagree on where to live or the career path each wants to take. Ultimately, the couple may end up with irreconcilable differences meaning that they are unable to resolve their problems.

Some marriages can withstand even the worse stressors. Experts identify certain behaviors that can help couples survive. Some couples turn toward one another and strengthen their mutual support during difficult times. It is when stress causes couples to turn against one another and when defensiveness and contempt take over that a marriage may be in trouble.

Unfortunately, the same dynamics that end a marriage may also make the divorce difficult. People's emotions may affect negotiations over child custody and property division. Even if the couple has a prenuptial agreement, this could be challenged if one person feels the agreement was signed under duress or there was insufficient legal counsel. If a couple can set aside these difficult emotions to negotiate a divorce agreement, they may be happier with the outcome since they remain in control and may be able to use creative solutions for their particular situation. If the case goes to court, they will have less control over the outcome.
