Expressions of anger can impact custody decisions

49635486_S.jpgBen Franklin is cited as having said, "Anger is never without a reason, but seldom with a good one." And while these are very sound words, in theory, putting them into practice can be very challenging. The fact is, we all have experiences that can drive us to distraction and even lead us to falling prey to some very negative emotions.

Going through a divorce can create many frustrations, and often, people harbor very deep resentments about how their marriage ended. And the fact is, this is perfectly normal. However, if your emotions are overwhelming you and affecting your behavior, you could be doing yourself a grave disservice. This is especially true if you are a parent.

You see, if a divorce is particularly contentious, it is very possible that many of the important decisions regarding child custody will be left in the hands of a family court judge. And if you are not careful, your actions could be used against you, giving your ex the upper hand and perhaps costing you visitation or even custody rights. For instance, a series of hostile phone messages that you leave your ex when you are particularly upset could easily be used as evidence that you are an unfit parent or have anger management problems.

For this reason alone, it is a good idea to seek the representation of an experienced family law attorney who can act as a buffer between you and your spouse. And we at the Stange Law Firm focus solely on family law, so we are well prepared to help shoulder the emotional load you are carrying. So even if you are justified in your anger, we can act on your behalf to help you get the custody terms you are seeking.
